Jun 19, 2014 · Cold start problem. Bought an 03 500, 5,000 miles, back in 2011. Now has 15,000 miles, but has always been difficult to start on cold mornings. Had the carbs out twice, cleaned and adjusted, and the engine runs fine. But the enricher (choke) has never worked. Pulling the enricher out during cold weather does nothing. If I start having problems I will be a fly in the ointment at my local dealer and will bug Kawasaki until I get satisfaction. ... If your 1500 vulcan won't start... It's not the sidestand switch, if it won't start. It just won't run with sidestand "down" and in gear, with the clutch out. So here's the troubleshoot. First check the battery voltage. It should be 12.5 or more. Then check that the positive and negative connection are clean and tight on the battery.

Pull the connector off the regulator. Measure the resistance across the 3 white wires going to the stator. Value should be 0.11 - 0.17 ohm (1-ohm scale). Start the bike and measure the voltage on across the same white wires and it should be 54V or more (250v scale).900 problems. O.K. been riding since 1959 and have had everything going and some no longer going so I know all bikes have their own 'quirks'. I need to downsize from my C-90 at my age (knees are shot, back spasms etc). Really like the looks and feel of the 900. But one of main reasons not to go Suzuki again is their p*ssy electrical system.
