Unthread the Phillips screw (#2) and pull the handle (#3), wall tube (#5), escutcheon (#4) and diverter stem extension (#6) off. Please note that there may be putty on the underside of the escutcheon which could cause it to be difficult to remove. 3.Grab the white plastic removal tool from the new Moen cartridge 1225 package. The removal tool resembles a plastic cap with a square block on top. Place the removal tool on top of the cartridge. Grab the square block with a pair of pliers and twist left to right to loosen the cartridge. Sediment can sometimes "lock" the cartridge into the faucet.

Remove screw holding plaster ground and stop tube guard in place and discard. Temporarily install handle. Turn on water, pull up on tub spout diverter knob and flush the shower riser for 15 seconds. Install showerhead and check system for leaks. If there are no leaks, turn OFF water and remove handle and limit stop.
