I heard people say "Just press Auto Deploy" as that is supposed to take of the load of having to assign the troops to each Siege Equipment, but whenever I press it, all it does is make my Infantry troops go for the Battering Ram.

Mameluke tier has some great skirmishers. Master archers are decent. Palace guards are hard to train but they are versatile. Not the best troop tree but nice and reliable backups.
