If your barrel was shot out there would be no lands or rifling in the barrel. It would be smooth like the barrel of a shotgun. Lands are the raised parts and the grooves are low spots. The grooves should be about the same as the projectile being fired.

I have a polygonal now and it's not any more accurate than conventional barrel. I want a little more accuracy as well as velocity, being 2" longer. I also want it optimized for 168grainers and larger, meaning 1/10 twist. A company called Rim Country Manufacturing produces excellent CHF from chrome lined barrels. PTR's barrel's are unlined 4140 CMV, as someone else posted its unlikely you'll ever shoot out the barrel, PTR's have a 20,000 round warranty on all major parts but their warranty is subject to what they call a "normal use" clause.
