February 24, 2012, 01:01 PM. My 2001 seems to make this noise that sounds like the rear end grinding. I was told the part will eventually need replaced but would not hurt to keep driving until it completely goes out. The noise is not there all the time, generally when coasting downhill or going full out on flat.
