Gadgets, Nature, and Fire are probably the best free DPS powers. 3) all the healers are pretty balanced. Water and Electric are my personal favorites, Sorcery and Nature are both good though.

Ranged i would say elec is better. Elec is a beast on many many targets due to the behavior from arc and teslaball. It's weaker on sinngletarget.
