Glenfield 30a vs marlin 336.
I have a Marlin, Win And a Rem 788 30/30. When I Run Factory ammo over my Chrony they are all Close the Marlin is on average 30fps faster than the 94 the 788 with it's 22' Barrel is 30 fps faster than the 30 Glenfeild Marlin. But it ends with Factory ammo! the 788 is King with reloads, but it aint sexy like my old Glenfeild.

By my research it was made in 1973 based on the serial number. There is still plenty of rifling left so it hasn't been used that much. I'm in one of my LGS's that I hang out at and I see there are 3 Marlin "JM" stamped 336 30-30's on the rack. So naturally I want to take a look at them...I look at the markings on the barrel, one is "SC", one is "A", now, I've looked around abit but other than seeing that "yea, they are Marlin models" of the 336, what is the real difference?

The Glenfield 30A was produced from around 1971/1972 to about 1981/1982 when it became the Marlin Mod 30AS. They are a quality Marlin made under the Glenfield name. They have the hardwood stocks, end cap and one barrel band, dovetailed front sight, and a non-folding rear sight---the rest of the rifle is pretty much the same as the Mod 336.
