Hi Molly, This code is saying that the turbo is not achieving the proper level of boost. The most common cause of this is a leak in the charged air system. Meaning the part after the turbo. So the air has been "turbo charged" and is making its way through the air ducts to the engine but it has a leak before it gets there and the air is escaping.
The situation has improved greatly. Are you using a good 5W-30 dexos1™ approved oil? My car is a 2012 Cruze ECO with 85K miles and only mod is K&N Air Filter in the stock intake. I had searched the forum and found it most likely a wastegate issue that would be covered under the powertrain warranty.
Recently installed a new aftermarket turbocharger (Brand name is Ineedup) due to a code (P0299). After a few days the code P0234 popped up, saying Turbocharger Overboost Condition - most likely solution is to replace Air Bypass Valve (ABV) Vent Solenoid. Unfortunately I already disposed of the old Turbocharger.
